FAQs

What is laser hair removal?

Using advanced laser technology, the treatment targets the hair follicles, delivering concentrated light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft. This light energy damages the follicles, inhibiting future hair growth while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

What is the difference between laser hair removal and IPL?

IPL produces a broad bandwith of light wavelengths, whereas laser produces a single band of light. Laser is more specific to a given target than IPL, and therefore is more effective than IPL and has fewer side effects and complications.

What laser do you use in the clinic?

We proudly use the GentleMax Pro Plus by Candela.

Are there any side affects to the treatment?

Permanent side effects are rare which may include prolonged redness, excessive swelling, hyper- or hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (laser bruise) in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days.

How long does each treatment take?

The treatment time can vary depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated. It can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour Both lower legs can often be treated in roughly 15 minutes, as can two full arms or an average-sized man’s half back.

How many hair removal treatments will I need?

Multiple treatments are required to achieve the full hair removal effect.

Depending on the types of pigmentation and vascular lesions you presented with, our laser technician will discuss with you the required, customised treatment plan prior to the actual procedure.

Improvements are usually seen within the first few treatment sessions (3-4) however typically 8-10 sessions are recommend.

How long do I need to wait in between treatments?

The recommended wait time in between treatments is 6 weeks.

Can I get treatments if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Unfortunately no, you cannot get any laser treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Are there any aftercare products I need to use?

Yes, we have laser aftercare cream available to purchase in the clinic.

Is the treatment painful?

For hair removal, the treatment is usually very tolerable, some patients may feel a slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin. Body areas which are relatively more sensitive such as upper-lips, genital and fingers may result in a stronger feeling. However, the feeling of discomfort generally resolves quickly and is minimised by our Cryo cooling machine.

What can I expect after a treatment?

After your laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunscreen SPF 50+. In the first few days after treatment, please do not scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Our laser technician may advise additional precautions according to your needs.

I have a darker skin tone, can I get this treatment?

Yes! Other laser treatments may not cater to all skin types, but our Gentle® laser is safe and effective on all skin types.

How do I prepare for a treatment?

For laser hair removal, you should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing about six weeks prior to treatment. On the day of your treatment, skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed of any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products.

Do not expose the treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, a prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.

For other treatments, please avoid applying any skincare which containing vitamin A, C or other agents which may cause sensitive skin. Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) always.
